Taking your dog along on your travels can transform a routine trip into an extraordinary experience. Whether you're planning a road trip, a weekend getaway, or a vacation, traveling with your furry friend requires some extra thought and preparation. Here’s a brief guide to help ensure your journey is smooth and enjoyable for both you and your dog.

1. Choose the Right Destination

Select dog-friendly locations where your pet is welcome. Hotels will usually charge a pet fee and have weight restrictions. We love dog-friendly cities such as Santa Cruz, CA and South Lake Tahoe, CA. We also find most of Oregon's beaches are super dog-friendly! Research hotels, parks, and restaurants in advance to make sure your destination accommodates dogs or what their restrictions are.

2. Pack the Essentials

Bring along your dog’s food, water, bowls, leash, waste bags, and any medications they need. Don’t forget their favorite toys and a comfy bed or blanket to make them feel at home wherever you stay. If you plan on temporarily boarding your dog to do some exploring at a place that doesn't allow dogs, some places will ask for proof of rabies vaccine so make sure your dog is up-to-date!

3. Ensure Safety

For car trips, use a pet seatbelt or crate to keep your dog secure. If you’re flying, check the airline’s pet policies and prepare your dog for the experience with a familiar blanket or toy. Depending on the road conditions, we don't feed Milo a full breakfast if the road will be windy, just in case he gets carsick.

4. Enjoy the Journey

Make time for fun activities, such as visiting dog-friendly parks or beaches. Remember to keep an eye on your dog’s behavior and adjust plans if they seem stressed.

With a bit of planning, you can ensure your trip is enjoyable for everyone, including your four-legged friend. Traveling with dogs opens up a world of adventure and shared experiences. Pack your bags, leash up, and set off on your next journey with your loyal companion by your side!
